Coco Male in House Beautiful UK...

Though this issue has been out for a little while...I just picked it up and wanted to give a little 'shout-out' to my fellow bloggers who are also 'blog friends' Katie and Emily (and Coco too!) who are featured on page 15!

The piece shown is from the company's 'Hanoi' range - a sideboard 'painted in a linen white,' and described as 'perfect for hiding away essential family clutter.' This is a gorgeous piece and looks great with that fab wallpaper! Congratulations! Thank you for your support of my blog too - I really do appreciate it!! xx
PS: for those in the US not reading this publication - I highly suggest it - it is packed with lots of design inspiration every month! well worth the price...

Lucky blue...

One of my favorite fashion mags, Lucky, has featured the color in their March issue and it made me think about the design world...because...

Lo and behold, House Beautiful has featured the color blue throughout the entire March issue...this gorgeous room above and below is on the cover (designed by Tobi Fairley & original photos by Francesco Lagnese).

I love the connection between the fashion and design worlds...the two are so connected and influence each other all the time. So, next time you go to Macy's...look for some design inspiration from all the fashion collections...maybe your new couch fabric or curtains will be influenced by a Donna Karan print...
PS: interesting note that the March birthstone is aquamarine...

More inspirational red...

Probably my favorite color combo...red and yellow...so warm, so inviting. This looks like a bedroom in the Caribbean somewhere...oh how I wish I was there now, as it has been snowing where I live for the last several hours! (from House Beautiful's 'Color Workshop' - photo by Victoria Pearson)

The new Country Living...

The new March 2010 issue of Country Living is out and I'd like to review what I think is a fresh take on this old mag! Because the shelter labels have been dropping like flies, this mag has taken the time to find out what might not be working and what needs improving. They have come up with a revamped version that has something for everyone. From the beautiful cover shot (by Lucas Allen) to an issue filled with ways to improve your home on a budget - this is simply not to be missed!

Check out this gorgeous closet made into a home office - I know its been done before, but look at the colors and style! Not to mention the chandelier and floral wallpaper. This is so easy for anyone to do (and it is a foldout page!) The editors include all the ingredients you need for this project on a budget - check out the metal file cabinet spray-painted with Krylon's Catalina Mist - this won't bust your budget at $4.29/can.

This home was an old post office in Minnesota reworked into a stylish and comfortable home (photos by Roger Davies) that frankly looks like it could be a New York City loft - the owner has done some amazing redecorating turning it into a home. A recurring theme in Country Living is the value of flea markets and refurbishing old furniture and finding new uses for it. Note the side table above in the picture - it is a vintage card catalog file.

This is one of my favorite shots and spaces in the home - an office with an old cane chair 'updated with Waverly's Garden Lattice fabric.' Perfect! I love the touch of using an old mirror too.

This room made my heart skip a beat - the white with all the beautiful fabric pillows and neutral furniture. It seems like they have taken the 'country' look and turned it up a notch no?
With Country Living's articles about places to shop for antiques and bargains as well as DIY projects, this magazine is all about the recession and how to save your $$$$, while still making the home look absolutely stunning. For those who don't want to read about the high-end fantasy homes ALL the time, this is a refreshing change - kind of a cross between Domino and House Beautiful or at least a distant cousin...
Will you be picking up this issue? Check it out, you'll be pleasantly surprised...

Photography 102...continued...

Here are some more images with the blurry foreground and background. The first photo is a little too blurry and the eggcups are from Selfridges in London - I keep them on my stove for decoration because the colors are so pretty.
I like this series too. You can tell I love tea!

Photography 102...

After setting up my photography studio, I decided to shoot two Cath Kidston items...I love her china and just bought this lovely little teapot yesterday to add to my tiny collection of one little mug!
After reviewing Leslie's great tips and a couple of other bloggers' tips, I think these look good. I have a lot of windows in my kitchen, and on the ceiling as well, so it was hard to control the light. I hung a sheer curtain to diffuse some of the light and actually figured out how to take these without the dang flash going off! I am very impressed with my Canon and didn't realize what I could do with it before because I never took the time to experiment. Well, shame on me!
I really enjoyed this exercise - I tried taking pictures like these when I was 18 (long ago!) with another Canon camera - the now-defunct Canon Canonet. I am just thrilled with these results and I hope Leslie will think so too. What do you think? did you set up a studio and follow Leslie's instructions? how did your pix come out?

BYW...the Mood Board...

OK! here are four images of my style file/mood board for the 'Blogging Your Way' class with the fab Holly of 'Decor8' and Leslie from 'A Creative Mint'...after making my own 'photo studio' in my kitchen, I think these don't look too bad...I have so many different things I love, but I like this board. One thing is sure: I love cats and animal prints! What do you think?

Ravishing red...

In honor of Valentine's Day this month, I am going to be posting pictures with red -- red accents, red anything. I agree with interior designer Alessandra Branca that every room should have red in it. I personally love red in any room, whether it is a pillow, a chair, a vase, a lampshade...you name it!
One of my favorite combinations is red and yellow. When I lived in London, it was grey, a lot, and all the interior design magazines featured fabulous country homes with lots of red, red, red. Another interior designer, Kathryn Ireland, is also a fan of red. I love her use of ikat and Indian-influenced fabrics that give her rooms such a unique look.
How about an all white room with dashes of red here and there? or a red and white kitchen? so refreshing and a change from the usual choice of blue! do you like red? would you put red in a room as an accent color?
